Happy New Year and welcome to 2024.
I am so excited about what’s to come this year and January is always a very special month in #annesuniverse.
January is special because I run my From Doodles to Dollars® Coaching Week which is the most approachable way to learn about surface pattern design and create your very first repeating pattern using Adobe Illustrator.
If you’re new here, surface design and surface pattern design specifically, are essentially any design or illustration that goes on any surface. Another way to think about it is to look around right now and see how many things have either a design or a repeating pattern on them. A repeating pattern is also called a seamless pattern where the design repeats endlessly from left to right, and top to bottom.
You’ll see surface designs and patterns on the carpets in your home, on the wrapping paper you used this holiday season, on the pillows on your couch, the duvet cover on your bed, your phone case or journal cover, the blouse you’re wearing. The list goes on and on.
This industry is huge and offers many opportunities for us as artists. The goal of my Doodles Coaching Week is to introduce you to this incredible industry and teach you how to create your first repeating pattern using Adobe Illustrator which is the best way to get started.
That may sound intimidating but here’s the thing. I learned how to use Adobe Illustrator and made my very first repeating pattern when I was in my late 50s. I’d never used the program before. I remember my own experience very well which is why I break the entire process down, step by step, and teach you through live sessions, recorded replays and downloadable written instruction sheets. We all learn differently which is why I’m so passionate about offering my Doodles Coaching Week using a variety of different learning modalities. You can do this!
